Think your local repairer won’t have the latest automotive diagnostic software, scanning equipment and technology? Think again.
Service Reset Functionality
Service reset functionality is extremely important in automotive servicing. So, when a customer has indicators warning light lighting up their dashboard, they expect their mechanic to have the ability to reset them. Diagnostic indictor lights form part of the vehicles on-board diagnostics (OBD), the vehicle's self-diagnostic and reporting capability.
On-Board Diagnostic Systems
The primary function of an OBD system is to monitor emissions and diagnostic related information in your vehicle. OBD systems can detect fault conditions early before serious damage occurs to the vehicle. When a fault is detected, the OBD system provides information about the cause of the fault, including a snapshot of the conditions leading up to the fault.
Diagnostic Trouble Codes
Modern OBD systems provide diagnostic trouble codes (DTC’s) which allow your repairer to rapidly identify and remedy malfunctions within the vehicle. Your repairer will use a wide range of scanning tools to identify, interpret and clear the DTC’s. These tools plug into the OBD connector to access OBD functions and can range from simple generic consumer level tools to highly sophisticated OEM dealership tools and vehicle telematic devices.
Staying current with technology enables your local repairer to carry out comprehensive vehicle servicing and repairs in accordance with the manufacturers specifications. Especially important for new cars. We’ve come a long way since Volkswagen introduced the first on-board computer system with scanning capability in their fuel-injected Type 3 models in 1969.
